Connecting to your home
Local and remote addresses, and how the app chooses between them.
Most homes have two ways in: a local address that only works on your home Wi-Fi, and a remote address that works from anywhere. The app can hold both and switch automatically.
Local and remote addresses
The local address is usually faster and keeps your traffic inside the house. The remote address goes over the internet and must be secured with HTTPS.
Set both in Settings → Server. Once the app knows which Wi-Fi networks are home, it uses the local address on them and the remote address everywhere else.
When the app cannot connect
- Check the phone is on the same network as the server, or that the remote address is set.
- Check the server is running and reachable from a browser on the same phone.
- If the address starts with
http://, see Security levels.
