Home network

Telling the app which Wi-Fi networks count as home.

The app uses the local address on your home Wi-Fi and the remote address everywhere else. It needs you to name those networks.

Naming your networks

Go to Settings → Server → Home network and add the Wi-Fi networks you use at home. Add every one — a separate 5 GHz network or a mesh extender with its own name counts as a different network.

Why the app asks for location permission

Android only reveals which Wi-Fi network the phone is joined to when an app holds location permission. The app uses it for that. If you deny it, the app cannot tell home from away and will fall back to the remote address.

It keeps choosing the wrong address

  • Check the network you are on is actually in the list — including its exact name.
  • Check location permission is granted, and set to Allow all the time if you want this to work in the background.
  • On some phones, battery optimisation stops the check running in the background: see Location troubleshooting.
