Location troubleshooting
When location updates stop arriving, or the tracker goes stale.
Location is the sensor most often broken by the phone itself rather than by the app. Android is aggressive about stopping background location, and it does so silently.
Check the permission first
Location must be granted as Allow all the time. While using the app looks correct in the settings screen but stops every update the moment you put the phone down — which is exactly when you need it.
Battery optimisation
Exclude the app from battery optimisation. Several manufacturers add a second, more aggressive layer of their own on top of Android's — look for a per-app setting named something like protected apps or auto-launch and allow the app there too.
Updates arrive but are wrong or coarse
- Check that high accuracy location is enabled in Android's own location settings.
- Indoors, without a Wi-Fi fix, a phone can be out by a street or more.
- Zone entry and exit is reported on a schedule Android controls, so a crossing can be reported a minute or two late.
Asking for a reading on demand
Your home can request a single accurate reading. That wakes the GPS for one fix and is far cheaper than leaving continuous updates on, so prefer it for automations that only need to know where you are occasionally.
