Bridge everything you already have onto Matter

Back up the identity, verify it works, then fix what breaks without resetting anything

Back up the identity, verify it works, then fix what breaks without resetting anything

Twelve parts back you built bridges, filtered and mapped entities, and commissioned them into Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa. None of that survives on its own. This last part covers the two things that decide whether all of it is still there next month: taking a backup that actually restores, and working through a failure — No Response, a stuck commissioning window, a host that will not

What you expose to the network, and what you let run inside the process

What you expose to the network, and what you let run inside the process

So far this part of the guide has been about watching the bridge you already built. This one is about two responsibilities that only ever come up once, and that most people get partly wrong the first time. First: the Web UI and the API that manage your bridge sit on the same box as the Matter traffic it serves, and the two need different protection, not one blanket rule. Second: a plugin is not a

A controller saying No Response is not a diagnosis, it is a starting point. Five separate things can be wrong underneath that one message — the Home Assistant connection, the bridge process, the Matter fabric, the controller session, or a single endpoint — and only one of them is fixed by restarting a bridge. This part covers two halves of the same discipline: day-to-day bridge operations on the B

The compatibility matrix, and the gap between yes and tested

The compatibility matrix, and the gap between yes and tested

Parts 8 and 9 walked you through commissioning with Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa one controller at a time. This part pulls back and asks a bigger question: across all five ecosystems Matter Hub can reach — Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Aqara Home and SmartThings — which of the 52 Matter device types in Stable v2.0.55 actually works where? The answer is not a single yes-or-no. It is a

Hand the same bridge to Google Home, then to Alexa

Hand the same bridge to Google Home, then to Alexa

Part 8 walked one bridge into Apple Home. This part walks a bridge into Google Home, and a second one — or the same one, carefully — into Amazon Alexa. Both are Matter controllers, not copies of your Home Assistant account, and each one comes with its own quirks: Google Home reads a template and a profile that sound like the same setting and are not, and Alexa will only finish its very first commi

Commissioning is a relationship, not a one-time scan

Commissioning is a relationship, not a one-time scan

Scanning a QR code feels like the whole job. It is not. Once the pairing screen closes, Matter Hub and the controller you just added still have a fabric, a session and a subscription to keep alive between them — and each of those three can break on its own, long after the code has been forgotten. This part builds the mental model for multi-fabric commissioning in general, then walks the specific c

The devices that do not fit the mold, and the moment one earns its own front door

The devices that do not fit the mold, and the moment one earns its own front door

This part finishes device mapping with the seventeen domains that never reduce to a plain on/off — media players, valves, water heaters, modes, alarms, events, sirens, vacuums, mowers and every kind of momentary action. Then it turns to a completely different question: when does a device stop being one more entity hanging off a bridge, and start deserving its own standalone Matter node? Both halve

The switch that becomes a light, and the sensor that becomes nothing at all

The switch that becomes a light, and the sensor that becomes nothing at all

Stable 2.0.55 turns a Home Assistant entity into a Matter endpoint by reading its domain, its device_class, its supported_features and a handful of attributes. This part covers the two chapters where that reading matters most: the seven control domains — light, switch, lock, cover, climate, fan and humidifier — and the three domains that carry almost every sensor in a house — sensor, binary_sensor

The override that fixes one endpoint, and the merge that turns five entities into one

The override that fixes one endpoint, and the merge that turns five entities into one

Part 4 controlled which entities become candidates at all. This part picks up the survivors of that filter and does two more jobs. First, Entity Mapping: a scoped, explicit override for one entity on one bridge — a new name, a different Matter device type, an identity detail, a disabled switch — that never touches the Home Assistant entity registry and never turns Matter Hub into a controller. Sec

Decide what's in the bridge, then decide how it behaves

Decide what's in the bridge, then decide how it behaves

The previous part walked you through creating a bridge. A bridge with no filter set is a door with nobody standing at it — by default, nearly everything Home Assistant knows about tries to walk through. This part gives you the two tools that turn that open door into something predictable: the Filter Engine, which decides which entities are even candidates for this bridge, and the advanced bridge s

The dashboard shell, and building your first bridge

Part 2 got Matter Hub Stable 2.0.55 installed and running. This part is the tour you take before you touch anything Matter-specific: the fixed shell and the thirteen routes behind it, the dashboard that only appears once a bridge exists, the two refresh cadences that can briefly disagree with each other, and the global warnings that look alarming and mostly are not. Then it walks the one decision

Install Stable 2.0.55, and pick the method you can actually operate

Matter Hub gives you three ways in: the Home Assistant OS add-on, a Docker image, or a global npm package. They are not tiers of the same product — each one hands you a different pile of things to own. This chapter walks all three, the network and storage requirements they share, every Stable 2.0.55 start option pulled straight from the source, the backup-and-upgrade order that keeps a rollback po
